Nice one Sugar

So farewell then Ansell from Alan Sugar's Apprentice in favour of 'quiet' check out girl Michelle and terrifying badgerer Ruth. Unable to choose between him and Ruth, Sir Alan went with his gut feeling and fired him: his irredeemable failing? - being nice. For all of Sir Alan's undoubted success at the helm of one of Britain's big businesses he is unashamedly proud to be a winner from a generation of selfish, arrogant, aggressive, bullying, backstabbing, autocratic business leaders. Fair enough; in a corporate world necessarily dominated by the survival of the fittest it may be unsurprising, but that same, oddly change resistant, once old school tie world has until recently been blindly prejudiced against the non white, regional accents and (particularly) women. So as we face a final round of two women slugging it out (and one, shock horror, allegedly lesbian) with 5 GCSEs between them, let's hope that one day being nice will not be an automatic and insurmountable barrier to the top. It's enough to make you turn to religion.....
