The Thames is a leak

Stop telling me that Thames Water looses 900 million litres a day (a third of the city’s water supply) in leaks. If we only use two-thirds then we plainly don’t need the other 900 million – so I don’t really care. And you can deliberately ‘leak’ the remaining two-thirds over your car or into the garden anyway. Most our water is from underground and that’s where all the leaks go. Ken Livingstone cares so much about leaks he wants to fill 150,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools a year with them. He is relying on this silly statistic to stop Thames Water turning Thames water into 140 million litres of clean water a day. What did he previously imagine they might do? It’s not like their organisation was a front. Meanwhile the Thames leaks huge amounts of fresh water past his office window and out into the sea.
