Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California has said that sperm might actually have a "biological clock" and degrade with age according to Andrew O’Hagan of the Telegraph – he has reached for his feminine side to ask ‘Will men listen to their body clocks?’ www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion 7 June.
Bollocks – or put another way, men will just, as always, listen only to them. I’m not sure what the ‘everything’ he assumes we actually previously understood about reproduction used to be, but it is a bit much to suggest this is contrary to it. And if they do then eggs will too which should make women even more neurotic. Is he seriously suggesting the younger the better – where does that put the under age? What if your genetics aren’t great in the first place? – does this mean that if you are very clever and healthy then the risk of ‘normal’ offspring is better with age than if you are unhealthy and thick (the aim obviously to end up with a ‘superior’ being). His research is based on his experiences of Big Brother. I think he is speaking to the wrong audience: male Telegraph readers only should be allowed to breed over 40; Big Brother viewers, definitely not.
